plop saysSat 30th Aug 08@11:53 amgreat stuff - very practical- question : why don't you use تشكل
-
This is the reality of Arabic that you read in books and papers, it always comes without (تشكيل), so we are trying to reflect the reality of the language. Also because we use podcast, where you listen to dialogue/monologue so you hear the (تشكيل) embedded with the words and get it as natural matter.

I've heard متعب used for "tired". Is تعبان more colloquial or vice versa? Great lesson guys.
-
I had an Arabic teacher tell me تعبان shouldn't be used in class because it's colloquial. He said متعب is better
-
Both words "تعبان" and "متعَب" can be used and they are right in terms of how they were conjugated, however, as you all said, "تعبان" is more used in colloquial, the classical equivalence to it is "تَعِب". The word "متعَب" is classical too, there is very fine difference in the meaning between "متعَب" and "تعبان/تَعِب" which is too advanced to be here.
So, three words can describe you being tired,"تعبان", "تَعِب" and "متعَب". -
this is really helpful.for months now i have been looking for arabic material online and landing my hands on this was like hitting jackpot. was wondering though, if its possible to have the transcription in th english alphabet coz i havent learnt how to read arabic yet and therefore i cannot understand other members' contributions. regards
-
Ahlan mercanpearl;
I guess you mean you want the transcription in the discussions as well.. yes, you are right it helps a lot, we will take it in consideration inshallah.. Remember that transcription in some cases can be harder than the Arabic alphabet, so just do your best in learning the Alphabet at this stage and afterward the other aspects of the language would be easy. -
Asalam-u-alaikum,

مرحبا!!
Thank you for the lesson!! It was really great and useful! I have one qestion to you: shall we use ما نمت كثيراinstead of كثير? Let me know if that's possible. Thank you -
Yes indeed,, (ما نمتُ كثيراً أمس) or (لم أنم كثيراً أمس) is the classical and proper way of saying it.
We used (كثير) because we tend to simplify the language in "beginner" and "lower intermediate" lessons to match what Arab people use in their daily life language where (7arakaat - short vowels) are less used.
Hope you are enjoying the lessons ;) -
I have a question ,I have lessons from an egyptian book caled kitaabu saassy ,as well as from the madinah book series ,that have conversation lessons ,and I would like to know if it is permitted from your students to post or email to you dialogs ,that perhaps you can act out? Please let me know my email is umm5twins@yahoo.com شكرا,السلام عليكم
-
Hay Umm Ziyaad,
Good question! We actually encourage our users to post us dialogues that we can act out in our lessons as long as they have not been copied, word for word, from a book that is protected by copyright laws.
Better still, we’re willing to pay users who can send us their own recorded dialogues that we can use in lessons. Again, these have to be created and not taken from an existing Arabic audio learning material that is in the market. -
اسلام علىكم
