um Jamil saysSat 22nd Jan 11@07:59 amThis was far too easy for me. I've listened to Levantine Arabic for well over thirty years!
-
I wish I were as fortunate as you, um Jamil. For the past four years, I have been trying to fit in time for my Arabic studies between my full-time job and my family. My wish is to finally advance past "lower intermediate" ...
-
@ um Jamil....can you please share what resources or sites you went for levantine arabic. Thank you!
-
I can neither open nor download the PDFs for this lesson. For both the Transcript and the Audio-Transcript I get files 148 bytes in length that do not open in Adobe Arobat.

Tau, maybe it was a slight issue with the servers at the time as it seems to be working now. Please give it another go
-
@ tau & Mohamed
I've just made a few spot checks. I've no difficulty in downloading transcripts or listening to podcasts, but it's impossible to play the videos. The servers do indeed seem to be deficient. -
@Desmond, Thanks for testing those for us. Regarding the videos, I have just tested them and they also seem ok now, it would be interesting to see if anyone else have any difficulties.
-
@ Mohamed
I've just made some more spot checks. I can now play "Buying Hummus", but the other videos won't work. The podcasts and transcripts seem to be OK. -
For what it's worth: I can listen to the lessons, view videos, download and open the audio transcripts but the exercises won't show ("javascriptvoid(0)).

Hi Karen,
For the exercises to show, please ensure you have pop-ups enabled. Your security settings might be preventing them from showing. Best thing to do is to add ArabicPod.net to your list of safe sites. Here are the steps to do this:
1. Open ‘internet options’ in ‘control panel’
2. Click on the Security tab
3. Click on ‘Trusted Sites’ and then on the ‘sites’ button
4. Un-tick ‘Require server verification...’
5. Add http://www.arabicpod.net* -
YES! Thank you very much, Mohamed. I had to make some adjustments to the wildcard you mentioned at the end, but the exercises are showing again. Guess I have no more excuses for not doing my homework now ... ;-)

I wish you had an app!

very nice one

Considered from a grammatical viewpoint, the fourth sentence in the text is quite interesting. “Shuu” (ﺷﻮ) is a compound relative pronoun. Like Ger. “was” and Engl. “what”, it acts as the subject of the relative clause and connects the relative clause to the main clause. So far compound relative pronouns have never been mentioned in any of the podcasts.

Wow! My favorite lesson so far! But it makes me sad that i cant pronounce some letters good. Sometimes i try reading to my fiancé and he doesnt understand what Im saying. it really makes me z3alane :(
How many lessons are there of Levantine arabic?
Shukran kteer! -
@Carmouna, don't worry, usually the pronunciation gets better with time. Practice to yourself what you hear in the podcasts.
Search our lessons page for Levantine and you'll find 20+ lessons -
Sorry to randomly post here, but how do I play the audio embedded within the pdfs? Everytime I try to play an audio I get the following message:
Warning: JavaScript Windo - Acrobat has encountered an error while playing this media clip: Adobe's Windows build-in player cannot play this format as the required decoder is not installed on the system. -

Every culture has its own sense of humour, understanding this humour is vital before attempting to use it. Sierra & Elias teach you how to explain that you were kidding in Arabic and also how to ask someone not to embarrass you again.
