I too have really enjoyed producing podcasts for the site and hearing (and answering, even if not always immediately ;-) everyone's comments and questions.
That goes for this last lesson as well - I'll check back in and reply.
Thanks also to Mohamed and Ehab for giving us this opportunity. Stick with them - they still have a lot to teach you all!
!كل عام وأنتم بخير -
Many thanks Sierra and Elias for all your hard work. I am sure we will get the chance to record a lesson or two in the future probably in Beirut, London or in the States, you never know :)
ألف شكر -
I'm very sorry to learn that Sierra and Elias are leaving ArabicPod.net. I've greatly benefited from their lessons and wish them every success for the future.
-
Thanks, Desmond! You're a great student and I've learned a lot from you. Wishing you the best in your Arabic studies =)

Dear Sierra,
I hope you'll have a brilliant career. You have always been friendly and helpful, and your podcasts have truly enriched this website. I'm sure that Ehab, Mohamed and all the other members of the ArabicPod community will miss you and Elias very much. Perhaps you'll have sufficient leisure to add a few enlightening remarks in the comment sections from time to time.
With best wishes
Desmond -
Sierra you've been an excellent teacher and will be well missed.
Hey ArabicPod, it will definitely be great to have another female teacher join the ranks. It's very helpful!
Best wishes, and as usual, terrific work on this last lesson :) -

-
Thank you Sierra and Elias for all the wonderful Levantine Lessons that we had from you'll. I wish you both a bright and better future!
-
Dear Sierra and Elias, thank you for all you tought us. It's really sad to have to say good bye to you now. And Sierra, please, accept a special thank you to you. You were a great asset to ArabicPod since you as a non-native speaker of the Arabic language had gone yourself through the same difficulties with the Arabic language that we - the listeners to ArabicPod - still face or will have to face and master. There are so many things, that go without saying for a native speaker, which are obstacles for us learners, that probably a non-native speaker anly can show to us and explain. And maybe, there is hope for a come-back of both of you under another star? Thus, let me say in German: Auf Wiedersehen.
-
Desmond, hexagonmoon, plop, Pmcelh1771, chazyouwin, Karen, quest, and tau - thank you so much for your kind words. They've really made my day. It's been a pleasure producing podcasts for you all and sharing my love of Arabic with you. I will continue to consider myself part of the ArabicPod family, and, inshallah, our paths will cross again soon, whether online or - better yet - in the middle east. See you later and بالتوفيق!
-
Hi Sierra and Elias,
I am really sorry you have to leave.Thank you verry much for the wonderful lessons.
Wish you all the best :)))))))))))))
Irina -
Shukran, Irina! Best to you as well ;-)
-
Sorry it has taken me so long to catch up on the lessons with much of my travel, but I'm very sorry to hear Elias and Sierra leave the show. They were a fantastic edition to the show and enriched the teaching and learning experience. Mohammed and Ehab definitely made a good decision in bringing them on last year!
I always appreciate the keen ear of a non-native speaker to help teach as well that is always very helpful in explanations, and also confidence in knowing that with enough practice you can get as good as Sierra!
Good luck to both of you on all your future endeavors in the Arabic speaking realm and beyond!
Mohammed and Ehab the podcasts continue to be brilliant productions, and I look forward to more!
Cheers,
Tomes -
Why did these podcasts discontinue? So disappointing to hear this! I especially appreciated them, as my whole extended family is from Lebanon, and they don't speak anything near MSA.
-
@Mona, unfortunately Sierra had to move back to the US so she couldn't continue recording podcasts in Lebanon with Elias.
-
ohh that "and for the last time allah ma3kun" broke my heart!
-
Is this correct to say لیش is actually ل ای شی، (for what thing!) and the equvalent in MSA is لماذا؟ or is the leesh itself common in فصحی?
-
@salehtabiani, yes actually very possible that (ليش) is coming from (for any/what thing لـِ أي شئ). In fact, the word (إيش) is a colloquial word and it means (what), and it is plausible to say it is derived from (any/what thing أي شئ).
Fusing words in colloquial Arabic is very common, so this could be a possible analysis of these words. -
Hi guys,
can't figure out how to write the end of "inchallah": what is that letter with the chaddah over it ?
Beginner - Levantine: Saying Farewell
March 25th, 2011 | 1 comment |
Saying goodbye to someone you like is always difficult, sometimes it can be a scene of tears. Learning to say farewell is very befitting for this lesson, as it is actually Sierra and Elias's last podcast. We hope by the end of the lesson you will be able to leave a comment in Arabic to say goodbye!
