KarenFaucheux saysTue 9th Oct 12@08:41 pmSo tell us: what's the Arabic word for "extreme ironing" (as shown in the pic)? I must say I occasionally feel I would qualify ...! ;-)
-
"Extreme ironing", "extreme running" or all sorts of phrases with "extreme" is not common thing that is used in Arabic. You just can use the word (شديد) to describe "extreme", so you say (الكوي الشديد) or (الركض الشديد). Again there is no specific phrase for it, and the word extreme has many meanings in Arabic, so the use of (الشديد) is what I find most suitable for such phrases.

So if "it's my fault" is حقك علي, would "it's your fault" be حقك علك? And how would the original sentence translate literally? What does the ك in حقك mean, if it's MY fault? Ehab or Mohd, I'll wait for your answer!
Thanks! -
Well, in the word (حقك) letter (ك) is (your), so if (كتاب) is a (book) then (كتابك) is (your book).
Now letter (ي) in (علي) means (me), so (علي) is (on me), and (تحت) means (below) so (تحتي) is (below me). These (on, below, above...) are called adverbs so if they are followed by a (ي) then the meaning is (whatever me).
If this (ي) comes after nouns then it will refer to (my), so if (book) is (كتاب) then (كتابي) is (my book).
Also notice if letter (ك) comes after an adverb then it means (you) so (عليك) means (on you) and (تحتك) is (below you).
Hope that is all clear so far.
Fine, the word (حق) literally means (right), so the word (حقك) is (your right) and the word (حقي) is (my right), Agree? Now (3alaa على) on its own literally means (on) so (3alay علي) is (on me).
NOW, to make (my right is on you) then you need (my right) which is (حقي) and then (on you) which is (عليك). So if you want to refer to (it is your fault) as (my right is on you) then you will say (حقي عليك).

Wow! I think حقي عليك requires its own lesson! What about "It's his/their fault?" Would it be حقي عليه?
