A very useful lesson and PLC, as Kurumi wrote, particularly for me vocabulary-wise, thank you. I have tended, wrongly, to focus on grammar in the past, but not much vocabulary; all of your podcasts are helping greatly here -- as well as to give me a more-rounded knowledge of Arabic in an enjoyable and fun way.

What is the difference between نافذة and شباك? I think I learnt شباك for window from teachers from Lebanon and Egypt, but I may be mistaken.

شباك and نافذة both mean window, but شباك is used more in colloquial where as نافذة is classical

These lessons are brilliant -only one request is to speak a little slower pleeeease as i listen to the dialogue a lot, apart from that your doing a great job! :)

Hi Amina, I'm a fellow listener/learner. I started out four years ago with no Arabic background at all. I had the same reaction as you did. During the first year, I found it helpful to listen to the beginner and lower intermediate lessons over and over using an IPod "back" button. This would allow the needed repetition.
It is also quite helpful to look at the transcripts, if you have the premium subscription, as they have excellent English transliteration for beginners.
If you listen to the lessons ten or fifteen times or more each, I think you'll appreciate learning from the natural speech pace. (And you'll also very much appreciate the lack of advertising in the podcasts). Albeit that intro music can get a bit old . . . .
Good luck - this is quite an exciting language to learn.

Marhaban bikom, as for listening speed,(I joined about a year ago)I had slowed down it to ×o.75~0.9(mine is SONY WALKMAN)and was only concentrating the sound without knowing any words. Forgive me my teachers,I must confess that I used even ×0.5 speed setting sometimes and ruined your beautiful voices.. :down:I'm not a native English speaker,even English part was tough.

But alhumdulillah now I don't need to do it for beginner lessons at least. It will take time to get used to the speed,just don't give up! ;-)

On the back button on the Ipod, I should mention that I basically only used the newer earphone controls. Three presses and hold to scroll back; two presses and hold to fast forward. Must have used them over ten thousand times on these podcasts all together. The earphone controls render it unnecessary to look at the Ipod itself, which might have been a drag if necessary.
