Hay Aaran
We try to teach universal Arabic here, meaning Arabic that is understood throughout the Arabic world. To achieve this we either use colloquial Arabic that is understood everywhere or classical Arabic. Colloquial words such as فلوس (Fuloos) which means money is widely used. With Arabic learnt here you should be able to communicate in Arabic regardless of the country or dialect :-) -
Hello everyone,
Very nice dialogue.Nice to hear that.I have some question about:
1)What is the diffrence betwen word مشى and تمشى
2)Word"bAqee"is from verb أبقى-AbqAA-to stay,keep.Also word"باقٍ -
As salamu alaikum.
I just joined a few days back. I liked the classes very much. I have only tried out some of the beginners lessons. It is my cherished dream to learn to speak colloquial Arabic, inshallah. -
Welcome Ayesha to the site! Hope it can help you achieve your dream and what a nice dream it is.
Czarek25, regarding the difference between مشى (Masha) and تمشى (Tamasha). They both have similar meaning which is walked. However, تمشى kind of implies that walked for pleasure. For example,
أحمد تمشى عند البحر
Which means Ahmad went for a casual walk by the sea. He wasn’t obliged to walk there, it was for pleasure etc. Notice if you change the last letter from ى to ي the meaning change to walking تمشي .
Your other question…
أبقى (Abqaa) means stay whereas باقي means (remain) for example:
سوف أبقى هنا لمدة خمس دقائق (I will stay here for 5 minutes)
أنا باقي هنا في المطعم (I remain here at the restaurant)
Hope this helps, -
czarek25, there is one more thing:
The word باقِ is from باقي but it comes in certain grammatical positions with the (tanween) instead of the (yaa2). General speaking, if (baaqee) is marfoo3 or majroor, we use باقِ (with the tanween instead of the yaa2), while if it is man9oob, then keep the yaa2, quick examples:
هذا الكتاب باقِ في المكتبة و لا يجوز إخراجه here is marfoo3
تركت سمير باقياً في الحقل here is mans9oob
Hope that explains the last bit of your question.

saa'emah -
salaam
I just joined this site an just going through it so far been really good ...
the example above
أنا باقي هنا في المطعم (I remain here at the restaurant)
why does the word baaqi got ya? rather than baaqin? shouldnt it be baaqin? -
Ahlan hassanali,
Yes, if that dialogue was in classical Arabic then the word (baaqy) should have been written as (baaqin). However, grammars in colloquial Arabic are less implemented and people in the street just say it as (baaqy).
Thanks for highlighting that by the way. -
Assalaamu Aleykum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu brothers, Jazak'Allahu Khairan for all your supportive materials, I feel it really helps Ma shaa'Allah. Ana deraasah Computer Science, baqeely thalaatha sineen.
I wanted to ask whether it is possible or whether anyone has become fluent through going through arabicpod completely? Barak'Allahu Feek ya ikhwaan.
Ma'salaama

Tune in to this beginner podcast and learn how to ask people how they are doing with their studies. It's a great conversation starter (even if perhaps you aren't too concerned how their studying is going :-)!). This should break the ice and help lead to more interesting talk.
