Does this mean the same thing as What's New?
Maljadeed? مالجديد؟
so can you phrase the question using Maljadeed and would it mean the same thing?
ما لجد يد
-
Yes, (ما الجديد) means (what is new) and you can use it in the sentence as (ما الجديد؟ من زمان ما شفتك), however,(ما أخبارك) is used more and gives more specific meaning in this situation, while (ما الجديد) is more used in situations like asking about the new and latest cars or phones.
Hope you got what I mean.

I say "bint" when the gerl is young. How must i say if my daughter is older than 18?
Shukran. -
I know this one matey, someone told me these in details:
If the girl is young and she is not married call her (aanesah, but if you know she is married, then call her (saidah). To be in the safe side use aanesah more because it is said to those who are 16-30 years old and even if the lady looks older, just call her anesah, she will be happy :)
Be very careful in using the word (aanesah), make sure it is NOT (3anesah) otherwise you'll be in a big trouble :-)
-
If the girl is your daughter then you call her bint no matter how old she is or binty بنتي because your daughter will always be your little girl no matter the age :-)

Beautifull answer. Are you a father? You seem very young to undesrtand the feeling.

I'm a Spanish guy who has been listening to he lessons since the very first one...
This time I got astonished when hearing spanish words in arabicpod... :D -
hey i was wondering how would you ask in arabic: How long have u been married??? then would u use sana=year sanatan=years to describe your answer...
-
(Mond'u mataa wa anta mutazawwej? - منذ متى و أنت متزوج؟), the literal translation is (since when you are married?).
The answer can be just (sanah, sanataan or 7'msoon sanah) or you can use (mond'u sanah, mund'u sanataan.....).

thanks that was very helpful......keep up the good work

I'm trying to catch up guys, but it's a futile effort. You produce too many shows! Just kidding. The lessons are great! This one (and the one before) in particular had some useful phrases.
Thanks.

At last you've got around to meeting that friend you've been meaning to catch up with for ages! What's there to talk about? Who knows what may have happened in the time you've been out of contact... As for the man in this dialogue, he seems to have started his own family! Join us in this lesson where you'll learn how to ask someone what they've been up to.
