Beginner - Levantine: Where were you born?

It's amazing how different it is sometimes between neighbouring countries sharing the same language. Even the use of the language sometimes differ. For example, in Lebanon they use 'created' to mean born, compared to the literal word for born used in some of the other Arab countries. Join Sierra & Elias in this Levantine lesson to learn more.

    And Happy New Year six days in!!! If you don't already know كل عام وأنتم بخير is a traditional New Year's greeting in the Arab world. In the Levant, however, it would be written كل عام وأنتو بخير and pronounced "Kil 3am wa-intou bi7'ayr." Literally, it means "Every year and good is with you (all)."

    Thank you guys for the Lebanese podcast! I'm married to a Lebanese guy and travel to Lebanon often. In fact, I'm going next week. This podcast gives my language learning motivation a boost to listen to these podcasts. I'm an advanced beginner (or maybe early intermediate) but still learn a lot from the podcasts.

    Also, I just wanted to say, I saw Sierra speaking Arabic on Future TV--what an inspiration! It takes a lot of guts to go on TV speaking your second language. smile

    Any extra tips on forcing people to speak to me in Arabic while in Lebanon? Now I think I'm good enough to have some decent conversations, but it's hard to resist the pressure to lapse into English.
