    لم أفهم لماذا كلمة "هل" يعتبر "حرف"؟

    I guess that I should admit that I didn't get the point about "hal" being a "letter". I can understand hamza being considered a letter... but what's the deal with Hal?

    حرف (plural حروف ) also means PARTICLE.
    ھَلْ and أَ are the question particles in Arabic.

    Thanks for clarifying the meaning of حرف , vinod, it's so easy to become confused. Just recently, having made a clumsy attempt in Arabic to comment on the small font size on Skype chat, using كلام , it was explained to me that it refers to words in the spoken rather than written sense.
