Beginner - The Moroccan Dialect

We at last tackle what some consider the most difficult dialect in the Arabic language, the Moroccan dialect. The east African area was influenced by a number of languages in the past including Berber, French and of course Arabic.

    Just a suggestion--- considering there are 20+ levantine dialect lessons, mostly at the beginner level, it would be great if we could get more lower intermediate/intermediate levantine dialect lessons, to build upon what we already learned from the beginner lessons.

    In my humble opinion most of the people come to arabicpod.net in order to learn MSA or Classical Arabic. The lessons done by people other than Ehab and Mohammad were a failure so my request would be to stick with what works: continue excellent lessons by our great teachers.

    I wasn't arguing against there being MSA lessons in my earlier post, I believe its important to learn both MSA/and spoken arabic. I think the levantine lessons done by the duo in Beirut were fantastic. What makes you think they were a failure? Just because you don't have an interest in something doesn't make it a failure.

    I personally don't want to limit myself to MSA, having spent time in the arab world, I never once heard people speaking MSA in social situations. I wouldn't want to close my ears to the entire social sphere of the arab world.

    I really enjoy learning about all the various dialects and their vocabularies, their similarities and differences, and how they relate to classical Arabic as well.

    We really do appreciate your feedback everyone, thanks and keep them coming. The website is here for you learners, and your opinion really matters to us.

    @mrsleepy, request noted, we will try to do more Levantine lessons at the Lower Intermediate level.

    @Greenpeace11, we'll always be doing MSA and classical Arabic, those additional podcasts in certain dialects (e.g. Egyptian, Levantine etc) are on here to cater for those who want them. They can be useful, especially for those who actually live in areas where these dialects are spoken.

    You guys are doing a wonderful job teaching the language.

    I enjoy learning Arabic lessons on my iPod Nano. I listen to the lessons on my way to the gym and repeat the dialogues during weight-training. The funny thing is that I remember the dialogues best when I lift weights! My husband and I are planning a little ceremony in Morocco to mark our 16th anniversary this December, so the lesson on Moroccan dialect is going to be very helpful. Please keep the lessons coming.

    My opinion is based on my personal preference about the effectiveness of Mohammad and Ehab as well as the subscriber comments about the lessons done by the Beirut duo. If you go back and read those comments you will realize how badly Mohammad and Ehab were missed. I would welcome all dialect lessons as long as they are given by them. Thank you for your great work.

    I added some of those improvement-oriented comments on the Beirut duo's lessons (actually one American and one Lebanese citizen). I thought they were quite good for me but their lessons were more difficult because they seemed to assume a higher level of dedication and participation from their audience than I had. A beginner level lesson from them was perhaps really at a lower intermediate level, and on up.

    I was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco for two years, so I really liked hearing my old dialect coming back.

    I would say that "baraka" is probably better than "safi" when you have enough of something food-related. People will understand when you say "safi," but "baraka" is considered more polite.

    I really enjoy theese lessons in mahgrebi arabic, I hope that you also will make one in Tunisian arabic soon, and make some dialouges. Very usefull lesson, with many great words. Please make more in theese dialects.

    I love this lesson because I travel to Morocco a lot so its very useful. I was actually thinking of learning darija instead of arabic, but I chose arabic to communicate with all arab speakers, however, I need darija too, as it is very different.
    So thank you very much!!
